Imo
Some of you might remember my incident when I threw an egg on the floor, thinking that it was a fake one and would bounce but watching it smash..... Well, I did that because Vivienne laid an egg in a really unusual place - in our miniature greenhouse we have to store the potatoes before planting them, and it's basically tiers of wire mesh under a plastic coating. Well - we've had no more eggs out there! But I just went out to see Vivienne and Queeny clucking and sitting on the lower tier of wire mesh, really squished in together. They have the whole garden to wander around in, and they choose to go into a really tight spot for fun It made me think that one of them had decided to 'play pretend'... as in, 'let's pretend we're battery hens'..... Abbey Road Girl
Hi Imogen, It is fascinating to see what they get up to, isn't it? They are very comfortable being very physical with each other. Sometimes (usually when there is a treat to squabble over), one hen will dive underneath another and momentarily wear it like a hat. We humans seem like a very staid lot compared to hens. They would probably be more like us if they could go shopping!
Imo
Definately! It always makes me laugh that after a week or so of completely hating each other when you introduce a new hen, they are suddenly best buddies!! Completely inseparable and doting on each other, waiting for the other to lay an egg
