They don't seem to like the new Pellets ??

Recommended Posts

I've just had to buy a new bag of layers pellets, and didn't have time to go to the normal place (out in the country) so I found a sack of pellets in Pets at Home (Big warehouse type pet store) . Trouble is that the girls don't seem too keen on the new pellets (they have always had the same sort that Omlet provide) and they seem to be much bigger than the old type.

How long should I leave them before I have to go get the pellets they are used to ? Don't want them to starve in the meantime... .. Or will they just accept that they have new ones and get used to them ?

Try making a mash from them with tepid water, mixing in a small amount of corn/boiled rice etc to encourage them to eat it.

You could also try crushing the new pellets if you think the size is the problem.

Once they get hungry and used to the new food they should be fine.

I've had success with this. Mine don't like pellets and eat almost nothing over an extended period of time, but they will eat them if mashed into a paste with water.

They rush to eat it like it is a treat when first mixed with water, despite hating the dry pellets!

If/when it sets solid, it may need breaking up again before they will touch it again.
