Richhar
Hi, Need a little advice regarding a fenced enclosure for our two Hens. They have a large section of the garden allocated for themselves (36ft x 12ft) and I'm currently putting up a fence to make it a little more secure. The fence is picket style. However, I have a friend who grew up on a farm and he has just told me that hens like to have a good view around them and a picket fence may not be the best style (glad I found this out halfway through the job!) Is he correct? Generally they will have free range of the garden which is around 1/2 acre and they will only be in the 'run' a few hours a day. Should I select a different style fence??? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Richard.
Couperman
I don't know if you friend is correct or not, but I fenced my area off with a wire mesh style fence. The reasoning begind that was if the top doesn't look solid they are less likely to fly up and sit on it before escaping and I can see what they are up to. It is also very quick to erect especially if you have a staple gun. Hope this helps. Kev.
Guest
Just a thought, they wont be suffciently protected from foxes by a little picket fence
emmat
hello - me and my other half have just built our 3 chickens a fenced off area in our garden. we bought 10 meter rolls of plastic netting - about 1.5 meters high from the garden centre, it was quite cheap. we then bought a load of plastic garden cains which were sharp at one end and attached them evenly to the mesh with zip-ties. works an absolute treat! we got the idea from the omlet version which i bought and returned as it was too fiddly and got tangled up so easily. our new solution is great - i would reccomend it!
