rachel m
have decided to try my hand at painting flower pots as gift, have been told that using ordinary emulsion is ok as base colour, and acrylic paints for detailing, but wondered if it is necessary to seal the paint with the varnish? if so, can anyone recommend a good, cheap and easily available varnish/sealant? thanks rachel
ubereglu
Sounds like fun. Waterproof PVA glue will do the job, but I'm not quite sure which shops sell it and where Dad gets his from.
lisaroo2
Hi Rachel I've painted on loads of pots, mainly terracotta ones, you can pick them up quite cheaply from places like Wilkinsons. I've used acrylic paint on mine and then sealed them with a spray varnish from the above store. Can't think of the brands, will check craftroom and then get back to you. You can also embellish your pots with buttons and things, stuck on with a hot glue gun. Have you thought of painting pots to keep kitchen utensils in as well? I painted some for my kitchen - they look fab! Come to think of it there is also a book to give you ideas - will raid my craftroom at some point soon and give you more details. We've not long since moved house so the craftroom hasn't been sorted yet. Too busy chook-watching!
