Do I have a broody silkie? Advice and help for a first timer

Recommended Posts

Hi

My silkie has been sitting in the nest box for 2 days, very docile and very hot! we have to push her out of the coop (literally)

Could people give me some advice?

I have actually closed the door on the coop so she cant get in there, but that also means that the others cant get in and lay an egg and I dont want them to be upset.

Any help or advice would be great as this has never happened before.

Thanks xxx

Sounds like she is definitely broody. Chuck her out of the nestbox so the others can lay, as soon as they have all laid close the door so she can't get back in. Get yourself a broody cage, basically a small wooden cage with a wire bottom, and put her in it with food and water, apparently after 3 days of incarceration she should snap out of it. There is a sticky in Chicken Clinic about how to deal with a broody hen. Good luck, it's no fun having a broody.
