[..lay a little egg for me]

At last another of our chooks is laying...and they're huge! The first two girls started small (40g) and have slowly built up to 50g. Rosie on the other hand has decided to just go for it after waiting so long and her first two eggs have weighed in at 65g!!!

 

Just one more hen to start laying and we'll have a full house! This last one is a Bovans Goldline. She still has a v small comb, though it is getting redder and must be around 23 weeks now...is it unusual to wait so long for her type to start laying? She had a 'cold' not long after we got her...could this have done some kind of damage?

 

UPDATE

Rosie has surpassed herself and produced a 95g egg today!!! Wow! If they go on getting bigger at this rate she will beat that 210g egg that was in the newspapers! I wonder if it is OK for their 'tackle' to be producing such huge eggs so early on in their laying career?

 

Keen to see if it is a double yolker...may have it for lunch tomorrow!

I was told by the breeder of mine (she has Bovans Goldlines) that they can start to lay anytime from 18 weeks onwards but it is most common for hybrids between 22 and 24 weeks. So yours is doing fine, anytime now

As i just posted on another question i have waited quite a while for mine they came on the 8th march at 18weeks and Amber has only just started laying
