MadMitch
As my girls are only young, now 7 weeks. I was just wondering what age do I clip their wings. Is it at POL? I wanted to start to let them out a bit but they are already flying up on the cube and various ledges around the run so I am a bit nervous they will fly over the electric fencing. TAJ
I can see this is tricky - you want them to have fully grown feathers so when you clip them they will stay that way until they moult - mine were done as POL - but I can also see your problem - young chcikens are lighter, so therefore I guess it is easier for them to fly. Hopefully someone who has had younger hens will be able to advise. Tracy
sheik
How high are your electric fences? I was planning on wing clipping when I first got chickens, but eventually made the decision to let them "fly" naturally. I have 5'6"-6' fences and don't have any real concerns they'd even try to get over them, let alone succeed. Once they start laying I suspect they lose a bit of altitude as well /\dam
