Sorry for the ignorant question, but how many eggs do ducks lay a year?

 

I have heard they lay less than a hen but more consistently, through the winter.

 

Are Indian Runners good layers?

 

Would they make a lot of noise?

Hi there

It depends on the breed of duck as to how well they lay

Indian Runners are a popular breed to keep due to their amusement factor (they have to be the funniest ducks to watch ) And they are one of the best layers, it's been said they lay better than some hens, often laying around two hundred or more eggs a year.

Our Runner is now a year old and is laying pretty much every day

And we have not found her noisy at all.

My khaki campbell girls are brilliant layers - better then the hens. Barely missed a day since they started (about last October)

thanks for the advice guys. I've also spoken to a breeder and the Head has given the go ahead for some Runners. Hoping to get them in this week as a nice surprise for the kids at school when they come back from half-term
