Mrs Frugal
I've given up with my breadmaker and have finally found a white bread recipe which is not only light but tasty to make by hand! I've also made it successfully with half wholemeal and half white flour. White Bread 3 tsp dried yeast 2 lbs strong white bread flour 2 tsp salt 2 tsp sugar 2 oz butter 1/2 pint warm water 1/2 pint tepid milk Put flour and yeast into a large bowl with sugar and salt. Rub in butter and mix in the milk and water. Knead the dough on a table or board for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in an oiled bowl covered with clingfilm in an airing cupboard or warm place for around 40 minutes until doubled in size. Knock back and knead for a couple of minutes then either place in a 2lb loaf tin or divide into 16 rolls on a baking sheet. Cover with clingfilm and leave in a warm place to rise for another 40 minutes. If baking a loaf, cook for 35-40 minutes in a preheated oven at 200C. If making rolls, only cook for 20 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
