hils78
In our spare time the OH & I are Ceramacists. We're always looking for new things to make & I thought of doing bespoke ceramic eggs I've never had the need for them & don't know what makes a sucessful ceramic egg! Do you have any ideas? Here's a few I had - different sized eggs ie BIG, normal, Bantam, quail - different colour, white, brown, blue, green, polka dot, personalised - glossy glaze, matt glaze - are they hollow? Also could do a good line in feeders, drinkers & funky dust baths!
Olly
Never had a ceramic egg, I only think of them as something to put in the nesting box to stop naughty egg-eaters. So I guess you could do one with a big scary face on! More seriously ... I should think there would be a market for eggs of different colours, blue/brown/speckledy/cream. It probably isn't something I'd buy anyway, but I guess if people were to buy them, they would want a variety?
Ms Tilytinkle
Hi, maybe theres a market for them, & why not 'eggs' for chicken enthusiasts, i mean some peeps collect ceramic cats, dogs chickens etc .. so why not a few ceramic eggs in a fruit bowl display or own egg display etc Ooooh just what are those eggs called, the highly decorative expensive ones that some people collect? peeps buy those. Just curious wonder how they would fire in the kiln & not explode, tiny pin prick at either end i suppose. Good luck, enjoy & have much fun. Or alternatively you could make your own mould with your eggs & any other eggs for different sizes, two halves could be put together ... what a challenge you have.. hope you create a wonderful egg range. Abbey Road Girl
My late husband collected non-egg eggs: marble and glass eggs. I used one of his marble eggs in the nesting box after my first two laying hens laid their eggs on the roosting bars. The eggs that my hens produce cannot be beaten (except for scrambled eggs or an omlet--just joking). What you want is value added. Cakes are a lovely possibility! But since you are ceramicists, baskets might be a better idea than eggs!
