Why do they differ?

Recommended Posts

my girls are almost daily laying beautiful eggs but in the 5 weeks they have laid we have had 4 very small crinkly shelled flat bottomed eggs...I'm sure they are not from the same hens we watch them like hawks...3 days a huge egg..then a tiny mishapen flat bottomed egg... any one any idea if this is normal or have my girls got something wrong with them that needs dealing with please can anyone tell me...they have had their run doubled in size and are eating normally and digging flippin great holes, are they ok?? many thanks for any replies I am worrying a little now...

don't worry - sounds as if your girls are fairly new, and they are probably just getting into the swing of things. When they first start laying it's not unusual to get extra small, extra large, crinkly, odd shapes or soft shells. They should settle down in a few weeks and you'll get more regular eggs.

Having said that, one of mine always lays very pointy eggs, and another ones with rough bits on the shell - every chicken has its own egg-laying characteristics. Makes it easier to know who has laid what!
