Bexiboo
How would you best transport 2 chooks? The journey will be quite long (about 2hours) will they be ok in a cardboard box with air holes? Should they be put together (they live together in the eglu already) I want to keep them as calm and happy as possible. Thank you
Omletina Kyckling
When I collected my new ones, I used a box with straw in the bottom and cut airholes in. When I got them home, they were all asleep as it was quite dark in there so they'd gone into roost mode. I would put them together if they are normally together. Mel (& Paul)
Yup, a cardboard box with lots of air holes. Straw or shredded paper to make them cosy. If they live together then they will be fine - the dark will make them sleepy. Make sure that when they reach their destination there is plenty of fresh water, and perhaps some treats. Karen Pimlott
2 in a box for 2 hours, they will get hot, best to cary them in an airy carrier such as a cat carrier, Lots of ventilation. this is what we transport to shows in & we can travel in excess of four hours sometimes & even on the hottest of days are fine. If it is a hot day when you transport them then put them in there own cases. On the poultrty club of GB site i think there are guidelines to transporting birds.. have a root round there Karen
Olly
I'd keep them together, as others say, they will go into roost mode. I put spare roosting bars in the bottom of the cat carrier to give mine a bit of grip, but you may not have these. Maybe after an hour you should stop and check they are not too hot, although you won't want to risk them getting out in a car-park!
