Hevvur
I started composting about a year ago, and went to add some stuff in there today........have never seen so many ants, they ended up on me - yuck! Is compost supposed to have so many ants in it? Thanks!
Olly
I think they nest in compost heaps sometimes as there's a food source and it's nice and cosy. Don't think they will do any harm, they will probably help it break down quickly.
fluffymuppet
Having a lot of ants in your compost suggests that it's very dry - they don't like nesting in damp areas. If your compost is finished then that's not a worry, but if it isn't then it will probably be too dry to rot down. Try adding some water (or pee!) or more 'green' materials.
