Gosh you'd never believe I am actually really decisive usually and the sort of person people come to for shopping advice.

 

I'm totally new to keeping chickens. I'm about to order my Eglu (ahem, when I've decided on the colour) but I wondered what else you thought I needed? I don't want to go MAD and obviously I need food for them, but what else?

 

Should I buy the Eglu run extender thingy? Or am I better off getting the netting to make them a little area they can run around in when not taking a supervised passegiata around the garden? What about all that natural stuff that Eglu sells to keep chickens healthy?

 

What else did you buy that you found useful?

I have found bothe the extender thingy and the netting useful. It depends on which they are going to do more...free range or stay in the run.

you gradually build up chicken bits as you go along. I would say beginners essentials are -

 

Poultry Spice (yellow tub - add to feed, lasts for ages)

Barrier Red Mite powder (white tub to sprinkle in eglu on cleaning day)

Hemcore or Aubiose for the run (comes in bales and is fab in the run) unless you prefer keeping them on grass.

A metal bin/secure bin to keep the feed in.

 

A few weeks down the line I would suggest investing in a pot of wormer, we trust and use Flubenvet and bought a tub 2 years ago and its still going strong!

 

Other bits/supplements you can add as and when you want.

 

Im sure i've missed something....list doesnt look long enough!!
