Help needed ref rehoming Warrington area

Recommended Posts

Hi - I live in te Warrington area and have had an eglu since January 2006 along with two chickens - sadly Matilda had to be put down six months ago after contracting some sort of virus but the other bird ( Henny Penny )appears pretty much unaffected and is still laying though now only a couple of times a week - the eggs are huge though !

Anyway the reason I am posting is that finally - after 29 years ! Daughter number 1 is leaving home and my wife would like to take the opportunity to come with me accompanying me overseas on my profession as a shipmaster leaving us in a difficulty as to what to do with the remaining bird - all avenues relations friends etc have been exhausted and I was wondering if any here with any flocks in the area maybe able to help - the situation isn`t critical as it may be some time before Jean comes with me but does anyuone have any ideas or assistance about re-homing ?

I would of course be willing to travel to pass the bird on .

Hi GrahamH, I live in the Altrincham area and would be happy to re-home Henny Penny if you cannot find her another home with friends or relatives. Presumably she is on her own in an eglu at the moment ? I only ask because I have 16 chickens already and would wish to make the introductions slowly to avoid as much unpleasantness as possible, so I would keep HP on her own in my eglu & run whilst the others become used to her. Do you think she would be ok in the circumstances?

Thanks Tweety - fingers crossed she would be fine - she hasn`t pined since the other bird passed away and we have a dog etc which she seems unperturbed by - I`ll speak to Jean later and will pass my phone number on if thats alright .

Thanks

Graham

Hi Graham, That's fine. I see that there has been another offer to re-home Henny Penny and just wanted to say that, whilst I would love to give her a home, her happiness is paramount, so if you think she might be better off in a home with 3 rather than 16 other hens I would quite understand.
