daj198
Hello Everyone, I emailed the BHWT a couple of weeks ago regarding volunteering at rescues. I haven't had a reply yet and wonder what I should do. I feel that emailing again might be a bit rude, maybe they just don't need volunteers, but I really would like to help out if possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
*mummy_hen*
I think that's fantastic - well done you!! Hopefully they will get back to you soon, let us know how you get on. The only other thing you could do would be to ring your local co-ordinator and ask how you go about volunteering and see what they suggest? daj198
That's one of the problems... Berkshire doesn't have a co-ordinator. Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre take some every couple of months, I'm not sure how that works in relation to the BHWT though. I could try phoning DBARC, though I'd be worried they'd try to get me cleaning out the dog kennels etc too! Thanks
daj198
I've emailed Lisa Pope who is on the BHWT website as the contact for Berkshire, Kent and Devon. (she lives in Devon ) If I don't get a reply, I'll try phoning. Thank you

chelsea
I've emailed Lisa Pope who is on the BHWT website as the contact for Berkshire, Kent and Devon. (she lives in Devon ) If I don't get a reply, I'll try phoning. Thank you I emailed Lisa ages ago about volunteering down here (hubby is a chicken catcher for a living so has experience of handling vast amounts of birds). She didnt reply for about 3 weeks, (assume they are very busy). she said she would ring us but we've heard nothing.
daj198
assume they are very busy Yes, Hugh and Jamie really have upped the demand for ex-batts. I would have thought that this would mean they are desperate for help though... I'm glad she replied, even if quite a long time after you emailed. Hopefully they'll get back to us begging for help
buffie
Hello! Sorry not around as much as I'd like. To be absolutely honest we have lots of volunteers to help at rescues, it's been wonderful how many people want to help bring hens out and help with the adoption. It does make you feel good. Lisa, myself and Jane are really busy and Lisa will no doubt be tied to her computer doing all manner of things for Jane and me, when she isn't at a rescue, so sorry if you've not heard from her . NOW If you have any other skills you can offer BHWT then let us know, that's how I started with BHWT, 3 years ago plus:) Always lovely to see BHWT threads on here BBx
daj198
Hello All I got a reply from Jane! She said that, because there is no co-ordinator in Berkshire, they can't make use of my offer to help I'm tempted to do co-ordinating now Thanks Buffie, it's always great to hear from you about the BHWT! I'm not sure if I have any other skills to be honest... I'm hoping to train in veterinary medicine so I might be of some use then!
chelsea
I'm not sure if I have any other skills to be honest. me neither, so if they have enough volunteers at rescues then that's fair enough.
Egluntyne
I'm tempted to do co-ordinating now It would be a massive undertaking and you would need a barn or similar accommodation. Good luck though.
