cluck and henry
Hello Looking for more advice please. While I was in our local pet food shop we noticed they sold paddy rice. This seems to be rice with the outer husk still on it. Can any one tell us whether this is something chickens can eat and if so does it have to be cooked first. We do already feed our hens cooked rice which they love but wondered if this might be another good treat for them. We recently heard wild birds should only be fed cooked rice as uncooked was bad for them, is this the same for hens. Thanks.
Ali B
I am sure that I read somewhere that hens shouldn't be fed uncooked rice either, as it can swell once eaten and cause problems. Egluntyne
They certainly enjoy cooked ordinary rice as a treat. Not sure about the husks though. Uncooked rice is not a good idea.
