Gravel or what?

Recommended Posts

I did post this as a reply to another posting, but thought it might get a better response if posted as a seperate topic, so have edited my reply on other posting and started this new topic :)

I am trying to work out what will be best for the floor of my goose/duck pen when it is built.

I was thinking that gravel could be hosed down better and not get all muddy.

I am sure some one on here said they used it in their chicken run, they raked it all back maybe once a month and sprinkled the soil underneath with garden lime then put the gravel back.

Does any one know if this would keep things fresh?

I don't want a fly or smell problem as both my neighbours eat in their gardens in the summer.

I was also wondering what size gravel would be more comfortable on their feet, large pebble size or small granular?

hi, ive shown this on another post, but we extended our run to make it big enough for my indian runners and two new call boys. (the runners are not in there when this was taken but went in a week later. :D

the area we extended the run over was already patioed and had gravel around the edges. i empty their water each day and use a broom to sweep the water and poo away! it turns into a 5 min job................ drains away well too. :D doesn't get boggy either...................

hope this helps
