mrs chook
I managed over half term to 'intercept' the eggs before they were eaten. I work at the local school in the mornings and come home to a hollow shell. It's been going on for weeks now. I have tried fake egg, but bertha showed signs of going broody on it, prissy isn't laying eggs with firm shells despite grit and limestone flour Any suggestions PLEASE
lisa33
We used the rubber egg, but initially it didn't work as Pepper lays dark brown eggs and the rubber egg was pale. We gently cracked open one of her eggs that we saved (we couldn't eat them for a while as she was on medication), dunked the rubber egg in cayenne pepper and 'wrapped it' in her egg shell. A few days of this seems to have worked as she has only eaten one egg in the last four weeks. Although the day she did do this was the day of my hen party. Egluntyne
Maybe the soft egg layer needs a bit more Vit D. Why not sprinkle a bit of cod liver oil on her pellets? Or there is a calcium and Vit D supplement called Zolcal D which might help.
