GV
My Pekin duck (about 3 mos. old, probably female based on loud voice) was imprinted on an Ameracuana chick as a baby. We were TOLD the chicken would be a hen. Unfortunately our chicken turned out to be a male and its loud crowing was going to get us kicked out of suburbia so we found a new home for him. Problem is, the duck is miserable, looking for the rooster quacking loudly. I have 2 other cochin chicks, only 5 weeks old, who are afraid of the duck when she tries to be friendly toward them. The poor duck seems in need of a companion. If I could somehow find another baby duck, esp. male, how would this older duck respond to it? Would she accept or reject it? Is this a good answer to the lonely duck problem? Or just wait and let her forget her best friend rooster?
Lesley
You may find it difficult to introduce a male to your existing duck. They grow up well together if they are an existing couple but it is harder to introduce a new one. Could you try another duck? - that may be a bit easier. She may just stop pining and get on with your hens as they become older.
Duckmomma
As your duck was imprinted on the rooster it's most likely she considers herself to be a chicken and may not accept another duck as the same species, this could cause problems if a drake tried to mate with her I agree with Lesley, you may be better off getting another duck not a drake
