Good idea or not - We live by the sea and often see these, any good for the chickens to gnaw on as an alternative to oyster shells.

We used to give it to our budgie (talking 1960's here) but not sure why we did (I was only little!).

mmmm, thanks for that, think that's a no then. Don't want to upset my girls. Will stick to the more conventional methods.

I bought some cuttlefish in a pet shop while waiting for mixed chicken grit to be delivered. While I was getting to the last remains of the grit, I added bits of cuttlefish. Was more worried about crop problems than anything else (was also giving plenty of baked egg shells for calcium but they need both grit and calcium).

 

No harm seems to have been done. Perhaps due to the removal of salt. Am only holding the cuttlefish in reserve for emergencies however.
