Hi all

 

When I first handled Ferne last Sunday, I noticed that at the base of her tail had a lot of feathers missing and a bit of bare skin. The skin looked clean and it appeared that the feathers were growing back so I decided not to worry too much about it and just keep an eye on it.

 

Since then I have noticed that its starting to look worse rather than better, in fact it looks as though the area has been pecked - there is no bare flesh though. I do not think this is Prudence as Ferne is definitely the boss and I haven't seen any pecking or fights take place between the two of them.

 

I just would like to know what I need to put on Ferne in order to help the healing process and stop the area from being attacked (whoever it may be)

 

I'm going to get some anti-peck spray but just wondered if this would work if it was Ferne actually doing this to herself?

 

Sorry for the long post but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A bit of Gentian Violet Spray might help if it is her companion doing it.

 

It is mildly antiseptic too.

 

Tea Tree ia also mildly antiseptic, soothing and tastes vile, so maybe that would be a good choice, and you are more likely to have that to hand already.

 

A few drops in a little water.

Thanks Eglutine. I think I may have some tea tree somewhere - is it best just to dab it on or to spray it?

I'd dab it to bathe the area, and then leave it to dry.

 

I don't suppose it matters really.

If it's at the base of her tail, could it be where the preen gland is? If so, she could be doing it to herself - overenthusiastic preening? Just a thought!
