neck pecking?

Recommended Posts

My girls are normally freeranging from approx 7.30am until they put themselves to bed about now! Over the weekend they were confined to their cube run as we were away from friday evening until sunday evening. I introduced the crested ones approximately 3 weeks ago and all went very smoothly, with them just getting the odd peck now as they go past.

When we checked them last night they seemed fine. I noticed this morning that one of my crested ones has lost some feathers on her neck directly under her beak. Is this likely to be feather pecking or something else?

I have just had a really good look at her and there is definitely not any blood visible, just a few feathers missing around the front of her neck.

I just wondered if I need to take any action now to protect her (if anything has been going on) or whether I should leave it now they are freeranging again (they won't be confined to the run again for at least 2 months).

I've got some purple spray but the bald patch is so small I'm not sure I need to put it on as there is no skin damage etc

Advice please from all you chicken experts! Thanks

As it is such a small area, I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe check her over for lice/mites?

A good dusting with a lice powder should do the trick if you find any crawlies :vom:

The whole flock should be treated if you do find anything.

I hope she is ok. :D
