Hi Mark,

My boss has a pond and as an experiment he decided to incubate a batch it went better than expected and he got around 14 ducks about 12 white campbells and 2 muscovy i think, never lost any of they, as this was too many for him he offered me two, kept some and gave the rest to a friend. Dont think he has any plans for more. If you are localish there is always a poultry sale on at Lanark Market think once a month or so and I believe you can usually buy ducks there as well.

Thanks for all your nice comments, good to hear my ducks look good and healthy, dont think they will last long size wise in the ducklu run, will get something sorted out abit bigger before winter, unsure how to look after them in the winter months your comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

thought you must have got them from somewhere a bit different ,as any1 ive been in touch with aint got any .You must have a great boss eh :) .

As for the market was gonna do that last month but missed it by a couple of days (just my luck) am going this week though ,its on thursday, hopefully s

hould get some there.

As for the winter your probably ahead of me in the duck keeping game ,i aint even got any yet :) ,from what i have been reading think its a case of increase the pellets as there aint the same juicy slugs n bugs for them 2 munch on ,but dont quote me on it ,would think they might appreciate a bit of cover from the elements up here as it can get a bit windy and chilly ,as you know :)

Will post something up on thurs let you know what i get at market.

:)

Hi Mark,

Just checked the Lawrie & Symington website for you it does say the poultry sale is on the 3rd Jul then again on 7 Aug, it's a shame there is no catalogue of what is up for auction?, hope you find some ducks, you might come back with more than you bargained for !!, at the market there is the shop round the side which sells all type of feeds, I buy my duck & goose feed and straw from there or at WCF near Tesco in Lanark as they have the feed and straw as well.

let me know how you get on.

HI Kristeen

Phoned about a catalogue myself but no joy .not to worry .Your right about coming back with something else ,thats me all over ,hope there is no emus or ostriches -would have trouble gettin them in the car .

Thats good news about the straw and food ,have got some of a horsey pal but cant keep doin that ,also have pellets for hens ,its says they are ok for ducks but would rather start off with the real thing .

Well roll on thursday and a large dose of restraint required me thinks :D .Will let you know how it goes.

Hi Kristeen

Well ducks have landed :D:D:D got a trio of white campbells though not at the market ,was not overly impressed with what was on offer ,so phoned the guy that said he might have some mid July and sure enough came home with 2 girls and a big handsome boy ,think the girls have been gettin a hard time off the boys ,they were not at their best .After a few hours of pampering n preening and laying by the pool they are lookin a whole lot better.

So that has been my whole day (ducks ducks ducks) . well pleased with them :):):) .........Mark.....

Hi Mark,

Thats great you got your ducks, shame the market was rubbish, never been myself only for feed and straw, well done, think you would all have been disapointed if you had got none yesterday.

you must show us some photos of them when you get a chance.

I have took a 25ft x 8ft section of my garden and fenced it off for my quacks as I felt they did not have enough room in there Ducklu run, I bravely cut there feathers last night and moved them in, I have left the Ducklu run on to allow them to settle in first then I was thinking of halfing it, they really are unsure as to what is going on and I had to coax them out of the run with some juicy tomatos but they hardly moved more than 2ft from the front of the run door, had to coax them out this morning, wish I was at home as I would love to see them swimming in there paddling pool which is about 5ft wide, I have put in a little bit of left over decking for them too so they can sit off the wet grass and dry off, they were starting to wreck all my grass to at least it is contained to one section, was concerned about things getting in to kill them, we dont have any foxes and I am hoping they are big enough to scare any cats away, they are now 14/15 weeks old, one of there tails is starting to curl, think we have a boy and a girl. Hope you can see my photos.
