CCTV and WEBCAMs

Recommended Posts

I have seen the bird boxes you can get with built in CCTVs and I know how to rig up a web cam in the office - but has anyone actually rigged one of these in the garden / run / nest box for themselves? I would LOVE to see a working web cam - when I get my chooks I realllly want to set up a web cam so I can watch them while at work!

following clukboks idea we bought an infra red cctv to go inside our cube. Its great we can watch the chooks at night and by day if they are laying eggs. its a tiny camera and we have it located in the top corner of the cube, we bought it from Maplin. You can get additional cameras to add on it which we plan to do at some point. :D

It has two operation modes. The first is a framerate image taken every so many times per second so appears as video and is streamed straight from the actual camera. The second mode of operation is for the camera to send an image every 1 second to a website and the website page to refresh every second resulting in the image re-loading.

I have both in operation, the default is the stream you are seeing that looks like video, but in the top right of the video on the webpage you will see a message saying click here for alternativce view if you can't see anything, this alternative view is the uploaded image refreshed every 1 second. I did this in case people didn't have a Java capable browser.

The camera is a IP based wireless webcam. when you are viewing the camera you are connecting directly in to my home network and being forwarded to the actual camera.

Wow! long post, sorry I am rambling.
