Egluntyne
the guy in the shop told me Lily was already laying and i should get an egg in the morning ...But it is Thursday now and still no egg Maybe the stress of moving has put her off temporarily. 20 weeks is a little on the young side to be laying.....although not impossible. and this morning I checked and they are now pooing ing the nesting part ???? is this ok and normal They often do this. Put a plant pot in over night to block it off.....but remember to shift it in the morning. A few days of this and they should get the message. also have long before they wreck the lawn ?? I move them everyday but lawn already getting bald patches ...Put them on a permanent site if you don't want the grass to be "wrecked". oh theres more ( sorry will post this in another sectiontoo as going off the point ..) Bluebell is really dominant and if you give any treats ...they love grapes .we don't give many though and only in the afternoon / evening, but Bluebell seems to get most of them she just zooms in and swipes it from the others You always get one. Chuck a treat into the run for her to get, close the door, and give the other girls their treats. Or throw some in one direction for her, and another for the others. Why not spend a little time browsing through the Frequently Asked Questions section. The answers to most new hen owners questions are there. wombatally
They can take a little time if they have just started laying and they're moved - my speckledy was in lay and took a week. Jeannie the lohmann had also laid at the breeders and she's just started crouching now after two weeks, any day now! Don't worry. Cover the nest box as Egluntine says, I used to let mine sleep in theirs but now I block it off it is much cleaner! My Speckledy (Beefy) has been dominant from day 1, someone has to be in charge, just make sure she's not stopping anyone else from eating. Good Luck!
