andrewhelen
Hi, Charlie our Miss Peppepot laid her first eggs last Friday - two fairly soft shelled ones, then on Sunday she laid a hard shelled egg. Today though there were again two eggs in the poop tray one was broken (soft) and the other felt like a water filled balloon. Any thoughts? Is this normal. Is it likely that Charlie will be laying two in a day? Our Gingernut ranger appears to immature to lay - her comb an wattles are definitely not red I have started adding abowl of crushed oyster shells to their run Anything else i should/can do or should I just wait and they'll sort themselves out? edit - since the first five eggs (last one on Tuesday) we have had nothing. Again Am I worrying unduly? Edited July 10, 2008 by Guest
Egluntyne
It is early days yet, and there are often a few blips to start with. The oystershell is a good idea.
jlo
This may be some reassurance ... We have a Miss P and GR, As with you Miss P was the more mature and started laying a week before GR. After the first week we had a total of three softies amongst normal ones from her. I posted a few queries on here which all said that it is perfectly normal when their systems are starting up. I ground up baked egg shells into their mash and everything has been fine since. I am sure we will get a few more but I really don't think that it is anything to worry about. andrewhelen
Thanks all, I was of course worrying unduly We have now had an egg a day from Charlie, one being a fantastic double yoker. They are on the small side at the moment, but i am sure they will get bigger
