Wing Clipping - minimum age?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have two littlees - a 13 week old Cream Legbar and a 14 week old Welsummer. I've had them for a week, and so far they've not been allowed out of the Eglu run. I don't want to let them out for a bit longer, simply because once they've experienced a bit of freedom (albeit within netting) there will be no going back.

Whilst moving the Eglu and its Run to a completely different part of the garden today, the Welsummer escaped. We caught her fairly easily (strategic use of netting), but I was surprised at how high up she managed to "fly".

So, I was wondering whether I sh/could clip their wings, or whether they are too young and their wing feathers aren't well enough developed yet.

Does anyone know?

Hi

I'm in the same situation at the mo (2x15 week olds). I suppose it would be ok to do it now. I am going to do mine soon but just want them to get a bit braver first.

As they have quite developed feathers, and you only trim the ends-I don't see it could be a problem.

Someone else may be along soon with more 'littley' experience.

I've done my older girls ones from a bit after coming into lay.

Good luck
