Hi there, I hope somebody out there can give me some practical info. We have recently acquired six ducklings which I estimate to be coming up for five weeks old. They have grown massively over the last two weeks and are beginning to get their feathers. Should we let them out onto our pond now or wait until they have all their feathers? Also feedwise they are having chick crumbs at the moment. At what stage should they move on to grower pellets and should I be giving them mixed grains or wheat now. Can they have lettuce, cabbage etc like the chickens do? I'm sure I've got more questions but help on the above would be appreciated.

I've only raised ducklings that have been hatched by a duck so she has done all the hard work - I'm not very well up on what happens when.

 

The best place to look for advice is the Practical Poultry forum - you'll find many more experienced duck keepers over there who will be able to answer your questions.

I have 2 nearly 2 week old ducklings, they really love their young grass or lettuce soup for breakfast. We love the way they get comfy and lie down to eat it!. Cannot believe how much these little creatures grow overnight

SO true - mine are just over 2 weeks and I could swear they are bigger each morning than they were the night before

LOL, they grow each time we look away for a few moments. Poor Percy was bending in the hamster cage, just bought an indoor hutch to keep him safe until he can go outside permanantly.

Just been given some advice by a duck farmer, ducks love wheetabix. Going to try it in the morning. My new litttle runners will try anything .Do not want to do them harm!. It is so nice to have ducks back in our lives. We miss our Runners so much.
