new to ducks

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I hope somebody out there can give me some practical info. We have recently acquired six ducklings which I estimate to be coming up for five weeks old. They have grown massively over the last two weeks and are beginning to get their feathers. Should we let them out onto our pond now or wait until they have all their feathers? Also feedwise they are having chick crumbs at the moment. At what stage should they move on to grower pellets and should I be giving them mixed grains or wheat now. Can they have lettuce, cabbage etc like the chickens do? I'm sure I've got more questions but help on the above would be appreciated.

Hello

I've only raised ducklings that have been hatched by a duck so she has done all the hard work :? - I'm not very well up on what happens when.

The best place to look for advice is the Practical Poultry forum - you'll find many more experienced duck keepers over there who will be able to answer your questions.

Hi Lesley

Thankyou for your advice. I will have a look at the Practical Poultry Forum.

I sent you a PM the other day - I don't think you've found it yet.......if you click on the bit at the top where it says "you have no new messages"....... that will open your inbox and it should still be sitting there :)
