Troy
OK now i'm getting a little worried. Her second egg this morning is....wait for it...91g I've checked her vent and it all seems to be in the right place and she seems quite happy with herself, but really should I be worried??? Missus
my hen laid an 89 g the other day and she's absolutely fine I thought it was large for a bird her size but she seems none the worse.
Troy
Has she just started laying?? This egg is only her second and her first was 75g?? Is it normal to get such large eggs in first couple of days of laying??
Missus
well it depends on the breed I think. What hen are you talking about

Egg Lou
I have had the same concern this week about my Amber Star, my other 2 layers started at about 45-58g averaging 49g.. but Freckles has been laying for 3 days between 66 -79g.. seem huge but she is fine so guess it must just be normal for some girls while they settle into laying? Troy
Hope so. Visited frank at Thornes poultry today and took the 91g with me. Even he was pretty shocked at the size and weight of it. Honestly its a duck egg. He said theres a great risk of a prolapse - awful- and to keep an eye. Hopefully it will all settle. Troy
