change in behaviour

Recommended Posts

I have 2 hens.

One is the more dominant and the more afventurous and was until the other started laying, the most tame.

Now this hen has completly changed. She won;t let me go near her, and when i try to pick her up she goes nuts. even when treats where on offer she shied away rather than eat which is most unusual.

the other one now is very tame and even pushed the older one out the way of the treat bowl which again is most usual.

Why is this? Is it a change of pecking order going on, and the previous top girl has lost her confidence? I wasn't aware i was part of the pecking order!

strange...

Chopish you are top chicken!

You have to be or you will become a slave to your chooks - they will wrap you round their little claws in no time! I jest not!

The pecking order of the chooks will change until the girls get established so its nothing to overly worry about.

When the girls go to bed pop your hand in through the egg port and stroke both chooks gently that way they will gradually used to being handled. Once in bed chooks settle quite quickly and become more calm and sleepy making it easier to touch them without lots of flapping etc
