New chooks!

Recommended Posts

Well. after losing our much loved Twinkle on Tuesday, we got 2 new chicken today a light Sussex and a black tailed columbian, very prettty they are too, very calm and settled in very easily..... however geraldine seems to hate them. After one day of seeming to miss her friend the last few days she seemed to like being on her own and doesn't appreciate the newbies at all. We adapted a rabbit hutch and placed at the gate end of the eglu run put canes seperating the run like Lesley -jean did, geraldine with some encouragement will leave and enter the eglu through the egg port and did actually lay today despite the newbies being in the run, albeit the other side the canes, but when in the run she is pacing up and down squarking like a mad thing and attemping to peck through the canes, the newbies seem completely unfazed by her and just stand there. geraldine seemed resonably happy when free ranging, I know its very early days but I am really worried as we go on hols in about 4 weeks and we have friends looking after them. I am wondering whether to get a seperate run to attach to the rabbit hutch, its awful to see poor Geraldine invaded by the new chickens and seemingly so unhappy, today has been so stressy I am wondering if we have done the right thing and it may have been better to just keep Geraldine on her own! :?
