GV
My Pekin duck, Maude, is only a few months old. She lives in the backyard (grass and wood chips), but comes in at night , where she sleeps in a pen on soft dry towels. She has both shallow and deep water sources. She has developed large roundish distortions on her pads that look sort of like human corns. She seems to walk a little more awkwardly than the usual duck gait too. Does anyone have any suggestions about what this is and if it needs treatment? Is she in pain when she walks? Thanks for your help!
Lesley
Hello GV - without photos it might be a bit difficult to say...........have you got a book which may help? or have you tried asking in the Practical Poultry forum? they have many more duck keepers over there and someone should be able to help. I know that our large table hens have callouses on their feet but it doesn't seem to make any difference to them. I've not looked at the ducks feet for a long time - they don't like being caught and if there is nothing wrong with them, we leave them alone. ruth1
do Ducks get Bumblefoot like chickens? One of my chooks has it and its just as you are describing, generally needs antibiotics.
