attenbhp
One of my Pepperpots has always been a bit nervous, and has always been the last to lay during the day - lunchtime when all the others are done by 9 am. She has had a tendency to stay in the nest box for a while afterwards. But now, she goes in there quite early, and won't come out. She sits there, and pecks me (a lot) if I try to shift her. So (being more stubborn than the average hen) I turf her out with a bit of wood, and block the hole up. This sound to me like a broody hen - but after only 1 month of laying? Do any of you seasoned chicken-lovers out there have any good tips? I'm out during the day normally, so I'm a bit limitted as to what I can do. Help! Egluntyne
Sounds broody to me. Why not have a look at **this article** from the **FAQ section**
surferdog
Sounds like it! Our Sylvie went broody within a fortnight of arriving Not only did she stop laying for a while but it upset the other two as well who didn't like her sitting on their eggs. They'd set up a crowing duet until I went and turfed her off and rescued the eggs. Nip it in the bud. Wrap up a coolbox icepack in a tea towel and pop that under her. (Make sure they're old ones as you won't fancy re-using them for a picnic! ) Some people say you can stop it with an upturned flowerpot in the nestbox but Sylvie would quite happily sit on top of it for hours on end.
