SusannenoZ
I have an almost 3 yr old chicken Geraldine, who lost her pal last week we have intrduced 2 new POl at teh weekend, see my other posts about how the intros are going, anyway today Geraldine laid an egg in the middle of the lawn, which she has done 3 times before though not recently, on the other occassions this has been on a very very hot day, and I kind of assumed that she just couldn't bear to go in the hot eglu, not the case today though. Anyway I picked up the egg, and thought no more about it. Then later on , about 3 hours later I found the remains of a soft sheelled broken egg on the lawn, it was definately not there earlier, it must have been laid by Geraldine, as the others are no where near laying yet. I suspected that this happened before after she had laid an egg on the lawn, but could never be sure it was her because we still had Twinkle and it may have been her that laid the softie, Has anyone else experinced this 2 eggs in one day? Other than her dislike of the new chickens she is fine in every other way.
Egluntyne
It can happen occasionally.
Chickvic
Funnily enough, Ruby did this today. She'd had yesterday off (after laying for 50 days ) and there was a rough shelled egg in the run. The shell looks thin, and then she laid a softie. The girls demolished it pretty quickly, before I could get at it She been fine all day so I didn't think anything of it. She's not laid one before and never in the run either. I think she just got caught out
SusannenoZ
The egg Geraldine laid on the lawn first, was rough, like very fine sand paper, the shells of her eggs are normally very smooth and hard.
Chickvic
That's exactly the same as Ruby's egg! You described it better than I did.
