Fluffy knickers going.....

Recommended Posts

Two of my chickens - Susie and Clarissa have red bottoms (or tummies) Clarissa has areas of no feathers at all and Susiue has lost most of her fluffy feathers?

Could this be where they are being bullied - Susie is quite timid but Clarissa is not! Is it moulting? Are they doing it to themselves ? Is there anything we can do? They both seem in good health and happy

It may have nothing to do with it but Henrietta 'the boss' has just started emptying the nest box before she will lay.....

:?:?

How old are they? If they're over 1 it could be a moult and more likely if they're both losing feathers. If it's mainly one that's bald it could be a spot of feather pulling.

Try them on some rinsed tuna or cat food and add a suppliment like poultry spice to their food. This should increase their protein levels and help with feather regrowth.

One of mine has just been very badly bullied, she lost the feathers on her neck and her bottom as well, making it look very raw and red, she also got some open cuts on her bottom, the vet said that the bottom was both the other chickens and her due to stress, we did the tuna thing as well, seemed to help

Hope it is just a moult and nothing more serious, especially as they are quite young

They were being bullied when we first got them but it calmed down v quickly and one of the older hens has since died :( they all seem happy together now.

I ahve got some poultry spice - I wil make some porridge for them, get some tuna and hope it doesn't get any worse
