Ground Cover

Recommended Posts

I am sure the answer to this is in the frequeltly asked questions somewhere so apologies...... but I just cant find it at the mo!

Can anyone help me with the two products (I think mainly for equine use) that are recommended for ground cover for absorbency and neutralising odours ? And the pros and cons of both before I decide which to get. My situation is I have four girls in a free ranging space about 15ft x 15ft with an eglu under a 300 year old Yew tree!

Many Thanks in advance.....

Hi,

The products you're thinking of are hemcore, aubiose and easibed. Hemcore and aubiose are basically the same thing from the hemp plant but I think hemcore has citronella added to it. \i'm not 100% sure what easibed is made of. Hemcore is produced in the UK, aubiose is french.

All 3 absorb liquid well so if you're area is not covered it will soak up any rain. i've used hemcore and easibed in a covered run.

I add garlic powder (another horsey product) in the grub, this helps to stop pongs too.

May I join in with this question? I`ve probably asked it before but I get confused a lot.

I intend to use easibed in my eglu run. It isn`t permanently covered but I use a shower curtain if it rains much. My question is - can I lay it directly on to the ground? On another forum I`ve been advised to use rubber matting or a thick gravel layer but I wouldn`t like to do either.
