MaxBaz
About May time, I put up a very large branch across my Cube and the girls took to it straightaway - in fact they never go into the roosting area to sleep at all. Now that the weather is getting gradually colder, I'm wondering by the time winter hits will they STILL insist on sleeping on the outdoor perch or should I start removing the perch at night time in about November to get them back into the habit of going "upstairs". I have read that they are quite suseptible to a touch of frost-bite on their combs in winter which is why I wondered if I should try and get them to go back into the warmth of the indoor roosting area in October/November. Or should I just let them sleep where they want?
Egluntyne
They only get the frostbite on the combs if the temp drops below -10C, so not much of a problem in the UK. Some advocate the application of vaseline to the comb as a preventative. Won't do any harm. They probably won't need much encouragement to sleep "indoors" when winter comes. MaxBaz
Thanks Egluntine - so nice to hear from you again, its been ages since I emailed. I'll take your advise and let them sleep where they want - at least by being on the perch it helps with the problem of mites!
