Advice wanted please - off-colour chicken

Recommended Posts

Hi there - please can you offer suggestions/advice.

Our three chickens are now 26 and 21 weeks old. No eggs yet. Today George Harrison seems very off- colour. She seems to be keeping separate to the other two girls who are there normal very alert selves. She tends to stand with her head under her wing in various places in the garden. This is certainly not her normal behaviour - she is usually the 'gang' leader. The first to come running when I open the backdoor. What is the matter? She is not the oldest of the three. She always leads and the other two follow. Any thoughts most welcome as I feel very worried.

Thanks

Terri

I am sorry to hear that she is unwell or at least off colour. Best to check her over for the usual suspects: lice, a very dirty bottom or something 'stuck' i.e an egg. Is she being bullied? Is her poo normal? (Fairly solid with a white covering) Has she got lots of water and is she managing any food? Just check out all those type of things and if she gets worse, then it might be best to call a vet. But come back with any symptoms...because there are a lot of far more knowledgeable people here than me. It might be good to isolate her from the others?

But a good check over would be wise.

No I Havent wormed them yet. I have Verm-X. Will that be ok?

She ate some raisins before and when she pood it was just liquid and white and watery. no brown stuff at all.

I was wondering about some porridge with probiotic yoghurt as well and perhaps putting her into our dogcrate to keep her separate from the others tonight.
