I'm noticing that you can set watches by certain chicken behaviour. Waking up, rushing for food and water upon waking, bedtime.

 

Are there any other 'regular' chicken behaviours, such as preferred times for dust bathing and egg laying, which folks have noticed?

Most things are followed by preening Also spontaneous sunbathing when the girls free range on the lawn in the sun.

 

Mid afternoon is tea and biscuits ( well they all get together and have a light snooze)

[Old Speckled Hen]

My old collie barks for his evening meal which is canned dog food. I give the chooks a spoonful with limestone flour sprinkled on it .... it's the only thing they'll take it on.

The second there is that first bark they are at the conservatory door. If I'm late they are tapping on the window at 5pm.

Have certainly noticed a routine, particularly after 5pm when a lot of preening goes on, bit more eating (if I've cooked pasta or rice they usually get that about an hour before bed) then they huddle really close together, their heads bob up and down and they get a bit fidgetty, and then they make their way slowly up the garden towards the eglu.

 

They all sit in the same positions in the eglu, and always lay in the same order in the morning.
