Taylor
hello, i turn to this helpful page once again for your advice! My lovely 18 month Speckeldy, Raisin, has recently lost her voice (which is very unlike her). Other than that she has seemed okay although i think she may have stopped laying the last few days. However, today as i put her to bed i noticed that she has white/bluish marks on her wattles. All the other hens seem okay. I Have recently wormed them, a few days ago as i do every 6 months with the same wormer, recommended by the vet. Im giving them Apple Cider Vinegar and have given them some poultry spice the last few days. I wonder if anyone has come across these symptoms before? Her eyes look bright, feathers okay, seems chirpy enough. Could it be a cold and if so any advice on how to treat? Many Thanks!! Worried chicken parent!x
moochoo
If she's got blue tinges on her wattles it 'can' be a sign of a heart condition. If she's 18 months old and has stopped laying she could be due a moult. My rule of thumb is if she's acting normally and eating and drinking as normal (considering she's been wormed) I wouldn't worry too much. Keep an eye on her and if you think she may have a cold a few drops of citricidal in her water will do her no harm.
Taylor
Thank you so much. I have been expecting a moult - would these be normal signs? Do you know if loss of voice is also a sign of heart condition? Is Citridal, the one for humans - also okay for chickens? How much should i add to water for 4 hens? So sorry for all the questions. moochoo
Hiya, the loss of voice could correspond with her not laying. Mine are most vocal around egg laying time. Citricidal is the one for humans and about 5-6 drops in a glug should be fine. If she's about to moult her egg laying would go off, so it is possible.
