New Ducks

(white duck :D ) ( :D white duck)

I have just aquired 2 Aylesbury ducks Daffy & Dilly ! Not sure of ages the woman I bought them off seems to think they are about 16 weeks. They are girls, i hope, no curling of the tails. They are so funny, we had a large solid crate given to us by my husbands mate, it's approx 4ft x 4ft. Its off the ground on legs, my youngest son has cut a door in the front which drops down as a ramp, and a larger door at rear so i can clean it properly. We have covered it with roofing felt and bought insulating material for the inside.

My neighbour gave us a samll pond approx 4ft x 6ft.

There are so many questions I need to ask !!!

What age do they start laying ?

What can I feed them as treats ? I have bought swan & duck food off the internet.

I often do I need to change water in pond ?

Hi Quackers - welcome to the forum. You may find plenty of answers by reading through some of the topics already posted in here and you could also take a look at the Practical Poultry forum.

Ducks make their water dirty the moment it is nice and clean so you may find you need to empty the pond frequrntly if it is shallow. If it is deep, or has a good pond filter, then you may find it doesn't get as dirty. It is a good idea to have a drinker so that they have clean water to dunk their heads and to drink from - you will need to make sure that they can't try to swim in it........or they will
