Half an egg?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

We have 3 hens and we got our very first egg on Wednesday :D

None since then, but this morning when I let them out there was half an egg shell that had fallen through the roosting bars. There didn't seem to be any liquid with it, and it definitely just wasn't formed properly. Parts of it kind of trailed off and others parts were very pale and thin.

Is this just because they're starting to lay so will take a while to happen properly? Just wanted to check that there isn't anything I'm missing!

Thanks

I have a separate grub with grit and crushed oyster shell available all the time and my girlies just help themselves when they need extra. The grit just helps them grind up the food, you need limestone flour or oyster shell for extra calcium but I am sure yours aren't deficient they are just warming up. :)
