maria7772
I cleaned out my Egg Cube yesterday and noticed a lot of flies. It has been warm recently so I assume that's why they are drawn irresistibly to the poo trays. In the poo trays, alongside the poo, were what looked like tiny white spiral casts. A bit like baby's fingernails! My hens are fine, showing no sign of any illness or infestation. I've dosed them with Flubenvent just in case, but does anyone know what these little casts are? Anything to do with the flies?

Dinkychick
sounds interesting. Do you have a white chicken just out of interest?
Hen Watch
Are they tiny fruit flies???? I have loads of these in my compost bins at the moment munching their way through rotting apples. They are very tiny flies and they have eggs and pupa cases that might be what you have seen? Found this online not sure if it helps. http://www.the-piedpiper.co.uk/th6h.htm
Karen & co.
Some times when new feathers come through they have a little quill type casing, and when this comes off as the feather grows they can look like tiny nails Karen x
