Advice please!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, new to chook keeping and loving it so far, however one of our girls, has become very quiet, withdrawn and doesnt seem to be eating or drinking that much, infact all she does is stand in the corner of her run.

Her tail is down and her comb has folded over and she doesnt make a lot of noise.

Ive handfed her some grapes and she ate a couple but now turns her nose up.

Any advice?

She is in lay, but hasnt laid since she's been like this. I took her to the vet today who massaged her crop ( and she seemed to loved it!) the vet said it felt a bit gritty so Ive brought her inside and so far she's demolished a load of cucumber and some spaghetti, the most ive seen her eat in 3 days. Got some antibiotics to give her and got to keep her seperated to see how much she is eating and drinking.

Thanks for all the advice and the welcomes! Hopefully she'll pick up!

Well she did not enjoy her antibotics this morning, was telling me off for about 30 minutes afterwards! She has also managed to escape from her temporary home behind the clothes airers so I think she is feeling better. She has been drinking and eating, and this morning she did a really watery poo with a yolk type bit in the middle, so Im thinking possibly a softie? Will keep her on the antibiotics until they run out and see how she is tomorrow and if shes better then she'll be back with her best mate Sage tomorrow in her Eglu

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

Glad to hear she is picking up a bit Charlie and that the vet's drugs are kicking in.

It's a bit habit forming as they love it, but pellets plus a pint of warm water make a lovely sloppy, easily digested "porridge" consistency which will get both nutrition and extra water in them. Then you can chuck in any suppliments you want to add too.

Hope she continues to get better.
