CHICKENDOC
Can anyone advise me. We are new to chicken keeping and my cream legbar has a deformed foot .She is now 22 weeks old but as 2 of her claws are not actually in contact with the groung these claws are getting rather long . What should i cut them with and how far back as i have read that they can bleed .
stoice
We used some sharp stout wire cutter type plier things (Note my specific technical knowledge ) to trim just the very tips. You need to be quite carefull not to go too short as they can bleed. See this recent thread viewtopic.php?f=5&t=32852&hilit=flat+foot As your girl doesn't touch the ground with all her toes it's difficult to keep them short (Like my mums flat footed ex-batt whos nails seem to point more upwards) but maybe try to have a piece of slate or paving slab somewhere in their run so that if she does scratch about, it should wear them down a little
