Poorly chooks

Recommended Posts

We wonder if anyone can help us,

We picked up three POL chooks last week and introduced them to their new home in our garden which consists of an Eglu, on bark chippings. We have three Hybrids and at first all three seemed fine. No real fighting or arguments and all alert. Since the 2nd day one of the chooks seems depressed and lethargic. She doesnt move as quickly as the others, not scratching or fighting for food as much. She looks basically sleepy and stands for most of the time with her neck drawn tight to her body. She is eating but not as actively and doesnt seem to be drinking as much as the other two.

Her comb and wattle haven't changed colour, still a dullish red, She hasnt got a 'snotty' nose or any real markings on here such as mites. We have monitored poo's and we have noticed that another of the chooks that seems fine is passing loose mustard colour poos some of the time but we had put this down to free ranging on slugs and worms that they had dug up.

Chooks were from Mothers Hen Poultry and already had their vaccinations but not wormed, I am worried that this may be an issue?? Trying to source flubenvet asap but cant find anyone who stocks it and don't really want to wait! Any other suggestions?

What else could it be? Just read the post about Blackhead disease and now really worried.

Help??

hi Lisa

Have you tried phoning the breeder for advice? not sure what's wrong with your chook but if she's been like this for a few days then I think she needs to see a vet.

You might be able to get flubenvet from your vet or it might be available on the net, have tried looking on the net?

In the meantime you could try adding some apple cider vinegar to their water, as well as being a good all round tonic, it makes their gut less friendly to parasites but don't rely on it as a wormer.

Been to Vets this morning and got Panacur to worm them. Cant seen any worms in the poo but one of the other chooks had a foamy mustard coloured poo again just now (it did have some dark colour and white lumps in but no worms).

Does anyone know if this blackhead disease is common, surely they would all be affected?

Help.
