LittleBoPeep
Hi there, we've had our chickens for six months and in all that time they have never molted. They are very healthy and are all still producing eggs on a regular basis. Do they have to molt/need to molt and how long does it go on for? Thanks
moochoo
Most chickens moult in their 2nd winter, depending when they were hatched. They usually moult for 6 to 12 weeks, I think. They do stop laying during this time as it takes too much energy and protein to produce both feathers and eggs.
