little chickadee
We discovered the celebration of Thanksgiving last year when my son had an American exchange teacher (we did know about it, but had never thought about it) It's such a lovely celebration with the focus being about giving thanks for what we have rather than all the stress and commercialisation of Christmas. My OH wanted to do a trial run of the Christmas dinner as he hasn't done a roast for a while (since last Christmas!) and I suggested that we have a thanksgiving meal. Luckily we havn't missed it (Thursday Nov 27th) I was just reading someone's post about having a Turkey roast in Nov and it prompted me to ask who is celebrating Thanksgiving. I'm not going completely American, as I'm going to do a Tarte Tatin instead of a Pumpkin pie! If you do celebrate - what's it like in your house? gracefruit
We are! I've not felt like it for years, but the recent elections have made me feel better about things, so it feels good to celebrate again.
MedusA
My friend is a huge foodie (as well as a freelance food writer) so we usually do Thanksgiving at her house. It is a feast and a half and as DD and I are vegetarian, she always does us something special which is lovely of her. We're doing it on 22nd November this year (as people are coming from all over the country) so I'm looking forward to it immensely.
little chickadee
Glad to know we're not alone! We still have a huge paper mache turkey upstairs which our son made for the thanksgiving assembly. I'm sure the teacher was trying not to laugh when she gave it to us to take home afterwards!
