tonywig
This is my first autumn/winter with chickens and we've suffered a sudden fall off in egg numbers. Until now we've had 2-3 eggs from 3 (happy I hope) chickens each day. This week for no apparent reason, the numbers have fallen dramatically, on a couple of days none at all. Could it be the weather? Could it be the (grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) fireworks? They seem happy enough though have been "caged" in the cube run all day for a few weeks (though they have plenty of food and water and get let out to range whenever possible - just less often in last few weeks. I expect it's nothing but thought I'd ask in case ... Thanks in advance
The Dogmother
They'll be about to moult by the sounds of it Tony. The fall in daylight hours slows the laying and triggers their annual moult; it's a chance for them to have a rest from laying and grow a lovely shiny new winter collection. Pop some poultry tonic in their water and make sure that they get enough protein.
